Two Families Hold Reunion:
187 Descendants are Present.

Special to the News. Thorndale, Tex., Aug. 21.-- A most delightful occasion was the reunion of the descendants of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Jackson and Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Caffey, two of the pioneer couples of Milam County. These two families came to Texas from Alabama in 1874 and located in Bastrop County. Mr. Caffey and family moved to Milam County in 1875, and Mr. Jackson and family in 1876, and located in the community which has since been their homes. Mr. Caffey is 83 years old and Mr. Jackson 76. Their wives are sisters and are a few years their junion. Both Mr. Jackson and Mr. Caffey are confederate veterans.

There are 187 descendants of these two families. In the Jackson family there are twelve children, seventy-one grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, and in the Caffey family there are seven children, forty-four grandchildren, and thirty-eight great-grandchildren. Four generations were in attendance at the gathering that day. About 200 relatives and friends were in attendance. A bounteaus dinner was spread.

1929 :: Death of young Preston Perry

Rockdale, March 20. -- Preston Perry, only child of Ed Perry of the Salty community, was accidentally killed last Tuesday by the discharge of a .22 calibre rifle in the hands of his playmate, Alvin Duett, aged 10 years. Duett had gone to the Perry home to spend the night. In the afternoon, the Perry boy handed Duett the rifle, telling him to shoot the rabbit in the thicket nearby, he having gone ahead to direct the way, when the gun was discharged, taking off the back of Perry's head. He was rushed to Taylor sanitarium but died before an operation could be performed. Waco News-Tribune, March 21, 1929 

1901 :: Death of George C Clement

Death - George C. Clement died at his home in Cameron on Friday, Aug. 29th at 10:30 a.m. His death was a shock, although many were aware of the fact his health had been failing him for several months. He was born in the Salty neighborhood, 10-miles south of Rockdale on November 14, 1870 and spent his entire life in Milam county. He came to Rockdale in 1893 and began the practice of law and remained here until December 1899 when he married Miss Pearl Green of Cameron and moved to that city. He was a member of the W.O.W. and the Friends in Need Society. He leaves a widow and one child, an aged father and mother, several brothers and sisters. Rockdale Messenger, September 5, 1901
