1945 :: Death of Marietta Cravy

Miss Marietta Cravy, 84, died Wednesday night, Dec. 19 at the home of Cleve Tucker, and funeral services were held at Salty Thursday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Frank Luker, pastor of the Methodist church of Rockdale, officiating. Miss Cravy was born on the San Gabriel river near the Kolb settlement about 1861, the daughter of John and Sallie Cravy, and spent her entire life in Milam county. Three brothers and one sister preceeded her in death. She joined the Methodist church in early life and was a consistent christian. Her brother, George Cravy, was a pastor of the Methodist church. About three years ago she became bed-ridden and has endured extreme pain and suffering. The only remaining near relatives are her niece, Mrs. Cleve Tucker and Grofney Cravy's two daughters, these being the only known surviving relatives. For the past 25 years she has resided at the home of Cleve Tucker and family who have devoted their time and efforts in caring for and comforting her in her declining and infirm years, that being the only home she has known for the past quarter of a century. 1896 :: Death of Jim Trueblood

Rockdale, Tex., Oct. 10. -- While Olive and Jim Trueblood were hauling a load of cotton out of their field this morning Jim was run over by the wagon and killed. After hitching their teams to the wagon both men put their shoulders to the wheels to help the team start, expecting to mount themselves while the wagon was in motion. Oliver succeeded, but Jim, while attempting to mount, lost his footing and fell under the wheel, which passed over his breast, causing almost instant death. 1929 :: Father & two sons drowned

Rockdale, Tex., April 7. -- A father and his two sons, who left home yesterday for an outing, were drowned in San Gabriel River, eight miles north of here. Bodies of the trio -- Joe Lopez, 40, and his sons, 14 and 11 -- were taken from the river this afternoon. The supposition is that the younger Lopez boy ventured in water too deep and that the three were drowned when his father and older brother attempted to rescue him. A searching party went to look for Lopez and his sons when they did not return to their home. Tracks near the bank attracted searchers to the hole of water where the bodies were found. Accidental drowning was the verdict of Coroner Leroy H. Hillyer. The Galveston Daily News, April 8, 1929

1887 :: Drowning of Fowler Kopp

Drowned by the Boat Overturning. Rockdale, Tex., May 16. -- Yesterday afternoon while three German farmers were fishing in a boat in the San Gabriel, about six miles north of town, the boat capsized and one of them, Fowler Kopp, was drowned. Deceased was a single man and a tenant on Anton Strelsky's plantation. Dallas Morning News, May 17, 1887
